Marc Belissa

Marc Belissa is master lecturer in modern history at the University of Paris X (Nanterre). His area of research is the political history of international relations during the modern period, and especially during the Age of Enlightenment.

 

Louis-Jean Calvet

A professor at the Sorbonne (Université René Descartes), where he taught socio-linguistics until 1999, Calvet is presently at the University of Provence (Aix-Marseille 1).

 

Philippe Claudel

Born in 1962, Philippe Claudel is a novelist and author of screenplays.His interest in writing going back as far as he can remember, Philippe Claudel, a great admirer of Simenon and of Giono’s writing from the period after the war, masterfully weaves together universes where simplicity, in a lightly colored lacework, floats above and tries to hide the dark dramas that mark our lives.

Thérèse Delpech

Thérèse Delpech is currently Director for Strategic Studies at the Atomic Energy Commission of France and Senior Research Fellow at CERI (Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques).

 

Souleymane Diagne

Souleymane Bachir Diagne taught philosophy at Cheikh Anta Diop University, Dakar, Senegal, for twenty years. He is currently a Professor of Philosophy and Religion at Northwestern University, Chicago.

 

Alain Dubos

Vice president of Doctors Without Borders (Nobel Peace Prize in 1999) for a half-dozen years, he has completed numerous missions, often clandestine, in many countries at war, from Afghansitan to Lebanon, including Kurdistan, to name but a few.

Born in England, and educated at Cambridge and Yale, Sir Eldon Griffiths was elected in 1964 as Member of Parliament for the Conservative seat of Bury St. Edmunds.

 

Philippe Gumplowicz

Philippe Gumplowicz is distinguished lecturer in musicology at the University of Bourgogne and teaches seminars at the Sorbonne as well as at the School for Advanced Studies in Social Studies.

Georges Ifrah

A former mathematic teacher, Georges Ifrah is the author of l'Histoire universelle des chiffres, selected by The American Scientist’s to appear on the list of “100 or So Books” that shaped the twentieth century of science.

Albert Jacquard

A scientist of the first order, Albert Jacquard is the author of numerous popularizations of science, as well as essays in which he seeks to spread modern humanist thought in order to help the collective consciousness evolve.

 

Yasmina Khadra

Yasmina Khadra came to readers' attention in 1997 with Morituri, soon followed by L'Ecrivain (The Writer), an autobiographical novel. Les Hirondelles de Kaboul (The Swallows of Kabul), translated in the U.S. by John Cullen, was chosen as best book of the year in 2005 by the San Francisco Chronicle and the Christian Science Monitor.

Etienne Klein

Etienne Klein is a physicist and holds a Ph.D. in the philosophy of sciences. He is currently the assistant to the Director of Material Sciences for the Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). His area of responsibility is the physics of particles and of controlled nuclear fusion (the ITER project).

Hugues Lagrange

Hugues Lagrange is the author of several books, the latest published in 2006 by Presses de Sciences-Po being entitled : Précarités Urbaines et Protestations : Une Singularité Française (Urban Precariousness and Discontent : A French Peculiarity).

Axel Maugey

Axel Maugey, Ph.D., University of the Sorbonne, is a writer, essayist and critic. He has been teaching courses in French civilization, French cinema, and civilizations of the francophone world at McGill University since 1971.  He has been a member of a small group of scholars who have been defending the cultural reputation of Québec since the early ‘70s.

 

Jean Plantu

In 1991, during an exhibition in Tunis, Plantu met the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, who drew the Star of David on the Israeli flag for one of Plantu’s drawings.

Gérard Pommier

Co-founder in 1991 of  the European Foundation for Psychoanalysis and is vice president of the International Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis in China. Gérard Pommier is the author of numerous works, including Qu'est-ce que le "Réel"?

Milton Viorst

Milton Viorst sits on a number of committees and organizations dedicated to a durable peace in the Middle East. He has been the recipient of many awards and distinctions, including the French Legion of Honor in 2005.

Dominique Wolton

Currently the Research Director at C.N.R.S. (the French National Center for Scientific Research), Dr. Wolton has directed the Information, Communication and Scientific Issues Research Laboratory since 2000. He founded the international revue Hermès (published by CNRS) and has headed it since 1988.
