In Boston, on friday, July 14th, Back Bay’s beautiful Marlborough Street will be blocked off between Berkeley and Clarendon Streets to accommodate 2,000 revelers dancing in the street to the music of Ben l’Oncle Soul and Daby Touré. Read more here

In New Orleans, Bastille Day Fête is excited to announce its new home at the New Orleans Museum of Art. In New Orleans, Bastille Day Fête is excited to announce its new home at the New Orleans Museum of Art. Now in its fifth year, the celebration will take place from July 7 to July 17 and will be bringing even more of its French flair to the people of New Orleans. Including an exciting line-up of local musicians. With the support of the Embassy of France in the United States, the Alliances Françaises of Dallas, El Paso, Houston, Los Angeles, New Orleans and San Francisco will be offering a free  training for french teachers focusing on the teaching of French Phonetics.

Led in French, this professional development seminar is designed for French teachers who wish to refine their skills for French instruction.

This is a unique opportunity to expand your knowledge of French culture and to develop new teaching strategies that are easily integrated into the classroom.

The training will be led by Sophie de Abreu, a teacher instructor and education specialist from the Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques (CIEP), co-author of the textbook Ligne Directe, and author of the blog PHONFLE.

In March, to celebrate the Francophonie festival, seven Alliances Françaises in the United States will organize the 3rd edition of FESTINEMA JUNIOR, the French speaking youth film festival .
Originally FESTINEMA JUNIOR was inspired by a program developed in France by Ministry of Education in order to discover, understand and promote the cinema amongst young people.
Besides the Francophonie celebration, Festinema Junior also aspires to make cinema an educational option, familiarize young audiences to French speaking independent cinema and teach young people to develop critical thinking by film analysis.
The project thus takes place in 3 phases:
- upstream, teachers will use worksheets to prepare students for the projection of the selected film;
- school outing to a cinema or in a local movie theater to see the film studied;
- analysis of the film in the classroom afterwards.

After two successful editions, FESTINEMA JUNIOR is gradually expanding in the US territory through the Alliance Française network .
If the first edition in March 2014, brought together 1,231 students in the cities of San Juan, Puerto Rico and New Orleans, the 3rd edition will bring together some 5,000 children and teenagers from seven cities in the United States through the Alliances françaises of Puerto Rico, New Orleans, Minneapolis / St Paul, Denver, Pasadena, Seattle, and El Paso.

For its 3rd edition, FESTINEMA JUNIOR RECEIVED the support of the French Institute in Paris and the General Delegation of the Alliance française Foundation in the United States.

Au mois de mars, pour célébrer la fête de la Francophonie, sept Alliances Françaises des Etats-Unis organisent la 3^ème édition de FESTINEMA JUNIOR, festival de cinéma francophone jeunesse, destiné à promouvoir la langue française et les cultures francophones à travers diverses œuvres cinématographiques.

A l’origine, FESTINEMA JUNIOR s’inspire du programme d’éducation à l’image développé en France par le CNC et le Ministère de l’Education Nationale afin de faire découvrir, comprendre et aimer le cinéma aux jeunes.  

Outre la célébration de la Francophonie, Festinema Junior aspire également à faire du cinéma une option éducative, familiariser les jeunes publics aux versions originales sous-titrées et au cinéma indépendant, puis apprendre aux jeunes à développer leur esprit critique par l’analyse cinématographique. Le projet se déroule ainsi en 3 phases : en amont, le travail des professeurs à l’aide de fiches pédagogiques pour préparer les élèves à la projection du film sélectionné ; la sortie scolaire dans un cinéma ou dans une salle de projection locale pour visionner le film étudié ; le travail d’analyse en salle de classe après la projection du film.

Fort du succès des 2 premières éditions, FESTINEMA JUNIOR s’étend progressivement au sein du territoire américain grâce au réseau des Alliances Françaises. Si la 1^ère édition, en mars 2014, a réuni 1231 élèves dans les villes de San Juan de Porto Rico et de la Nouvelle-Orléans, la 3^ème édition regroupera quelques 5000 enfants et adolescents originaires de sept villes des Etats-Unis grâce aux Alliances Françaises de San Juan de Porto Rico, la Nouvelle-Orléans, Minneapolis/St Paul, Denver, Pasadena, Seattle, et El Paso.
