Alliance Française in the press
Saturday, May 10, 2008
The recent creation of the Fondation Alliance Française was well noted in the French press. Mr. Jean-Claude Jacq, Secretary general, had the opportunity to talk about the new Fondation project in three long articles and one radio interview, in which he also called to mind the principles that have guided the Alliance Française since its creation in 1883.
The relevance of the Alliance Française formula in today’s world is well highlighted by journalists as the most wide-spread cultural network in the world run not by a government, but by passionate locals and volunteers who open their doors to the Alliance Française in 133 countries outside of France.
One thing that stands out in reading these articles is that the US network is widely mentioned. We should see this as encouragement to keep pursuing
the projects in our network, both pedagogical and cultural, and to better communicate our successes, especially via the annual questionnaire.
